A car on its roof is blocking Brading Down Road in both directions this morning (Saturday). Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary and paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – including an Operational Commander – were called to the scene near the lay-by at the crest of the road at just gone 09:00. The vehicle – a Ford Fiesta – has seemingly clipped a bank and lost control. The car has come to rest in the middle of the carriageway on its roof, all 4 wheels in the air. Police are sweeping the road clear of debris ahead of the arrival of recovery agents.
It is unclear if any injuries have been sustained by the driver – who Island Echo understands is a young male with a female passenger. The road is currently blocked in both directions. Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being. UPDATE – The road has now reopened in both directions.

The car didn’t lose control did it…… another will be along soon.
more wankers arriving soon..how do you do this..just more shit twat driving on the isle…
It’s not our visitors you need too worry about, it’s the bloody locals….
Seems that if it were not for air bags, and seat belts, the A&E on the Island would be even more overwhelmed than it currently is.
Perhaps fitting wheels onto roof racks ought to be made compulsory here.
More speeding on this lawless Island is the problem.
Police should patrol the Military Road, they would have a field day
with all the Numpty’s speeding.
Need to patrol the towns first they would have a field day
There is no law and order on this island, there are too many
selfish B’stards putting lives at risks.
Bang the B’stards up, no excuses for speeding.
My Uncle lives along Great Preston Road in Ryde
it is like a speedway, vehicles travel along at 50mph+
there are no speed Camera’s or Speed humps to slow vehicles down
“It is an accident waiting too happen!”, no one does nothing
about it.
Plod should wait along Nicholson Road Ryde
on a Saturday afternoon when the Royal Mail
Posties finish their shifts.
The speed they travel at along Nicholson Road
is way above the speed limit.
20mph zones are desperately needed on
Island Roads, so many Brainless motorists
on the Island thesedays.
Rubbish! I live on Military Road and so I drive on every day, and can see it from my house, and I very rarely see anyone speeding along it. If you potter around at 25mph it will look as if everyone else is speeding!
Rubbish, I live at freshwater bay and see tons of bikes and cars roaring down the hill into the bay at well over 40mph!
You need to go to Specsavers
Hope it falls in the sea and gives us all a rest from the noise.
You mean more old driving on the isle of wight.
Why do these idiots think these pissy little cars are F1 cars???…There shopping trolleys and nothing more….
Wouldn’t matter what they were driving. So many here drive faster than their own skill set and thinking time.
There are no speeding rules on the island.
The Island needs Sadiq Khan running the show
20mph zones islandwide and plants everywhere stopping motorists!
It is the only way Island Numpty’s will learn to slow down.
Bring in a congestion charge in Newport too!
I totally agree, limit all female drivers to 20mph
Think this time due care and attention comes to mind
Slow down you’re going too fast, you gotta make the morning last now
Feeling groovy?
Looks like the same elderly driver who pulled out in front of me then blamed me for there bad driving, when is this going to stop
Did you actually read the article? It says a young female driver. Yes, when is your ageism going to stop?
Did You actually read the article? It says a young male with a female passenger!!
It’s been amended…actually male. Again. *wonders if that makes me sexist, or just right? 🙂
The normal disgusting rubbish from you. It was a young female – although certainly a lot older than your mental development age
Try reading the article,it pays particular attention to the age of the person involved.
It says young female driver you numpty. Time you were blocked from here with your stupid comments!
It actually says a young male and a female passenger you numpty!!
It was a young lady canyou not read as well as not drive very well
Can’t you read? It was a young male and a female passenger!!
Try reading the article before commenting, the driver was a young female.
Always old farts normally you fools
Try reading the article before commenting. The driver was a young male with a female passenger!!
Thank you know it all, I read the original article that said it was a young female, it has since been changed as others have said.
A young female driver . Let’s hope she’s not injured !!!!.
Too busy looking over the Downs not consetrating on the road ahead.
Drive it like you stole it quality. My damage rating 5/10 more soon please. Sorry no prizes.
Slow down, ladies. Everyone gets where they’re going if we all slow down.
So not just ageist but sexist too.
I think you’ll find that 100% of reported crashes have been with female drivers today.
Especially seeing as the piece has been edited so now says ‘young MALE driver with female passenger’.
The word ‘SLOW’ is clearly written on the road!
Caulkheads cannot read
The island must have reverse gravity, as most crashes end up on their roof.
All these lead foot drivers should take some weight out of their boot , why do these prats think they are on a race track and think they are a F1 driver
Could of killed an innocent driver very easily , only a matter of time before this will happen
Lots of “knowlegeable” comments here from people who were probably nowhere near the incident or witnessed it – hope the driver is ok.
Why? Perhaps if she is injured it will concentrate the mind as to how reckless she has been, additionally onset of severe travel anxiety might make them use public transport thereby minimizing future risk to the public. Getting away with no injuries is likely to reinforce this numskull’s behaviour.
He. Male driver. Female passenger. Read it again.
All these cars turning over. The gravity must be different on Isle of Wight
I think island roads didn’t lay tarmac
It’s obvious they put down elastic with all these cars ending up on their roofs.
Another absolute shambles, how does this keep happening all over the island cars on roofs, through hedges, walls etc etc etc…boring now… if you get behind the wheel of a vehicle….pay attention to driving not phones not outside just driving before someone or a small child dies… concentrate on driving full stop….
Are the paramedics on the Island not capable of dealing with a job without always having an Operational Commander to tell them what to do? The OC seems to go to every job.
Another one of these incidents that the Council are keeping “a very close eye on”. The continued reduction of speed limits in places where they report “have had a significant number of serious occurrences” or “idiots chucking themselves off the road or speeding” only means that everybody else will be suffering the consequences.
The Council are more bothered sending their G’estapo Enforcement Officers
out to book motorists who might have gone over their time.
They should be more concerned about road safety.
From what I see on a daily basis most B’stards are using their phones whilst driving and are
speeding
How many ‘spinning around on my roof’ accidents have there been this year on the Island?
Does this give a new meaning to rooftop parking?
Most likely potholes behind cars loosing control.
Not one person said that they hope the young lady is okay. Just rattling on about bad driving, yet they don’t even know what really happened. So i will say it, i hope the young lady is not hurt and is okay.
Shurely not a Fiesta driven by a young male? It’s usually an oldie causing these single-vehicle incidents…isn’t it?
The car-on-roof season is well underway this year. Looking forward to a bumper summer.
YOUNG MALE DRIVER WITH A FEMALE PASSENGER.
Not old, not female, hence why young males insurances are significantly higher.
Slow down baby, darling won’t please slow down, song by John Miles,
Hope the driver is okay.
Why do you morons always blame the police? You shouldn’t need the threat of being caught and prosecuted to behave yourself while driving. Common sense and education mixed with courtesy should be all you need.
The fact that a good 90% of drivers on this island have all the intelligence of a rabbit dropping blows any dream of them having any of those traits blasts my above statement out of the water.
Before moving here 9 years ago I was warned that the standard of driving here was bad. Nothing prepared me for how bad.
I’ve been doing that road twice a day for 20 years, and its perfectly navigable upto and including the speed limit in pretty much all weather conditions it you are actually paying attention to driving rather than anything else.
So bored of the lefty wet wipes screaming for 20mph everywhere on the grounds of other people’s inability to drive a bloody car.
People can’t figure out how to use indicators on a round about correctly, let alone complete a more complicated task.
