A driver has had a lucky escape after rolling their car onto its roof – landing on top of a hedge – on an ungritted road in Ryde this morning (Monday).
Emergency services are on scene at Bullen Road, where a blue Mitsubishi Shogun has landed upside down on a hedge, near Pondwell.
The incident has occurred on an ungritted road in treacherous conditions.
The driver has been assisted from the vehicle by firefighters from Ryde and Sandown and is being cared for by the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Police have closed the road in both directions.

Why was the road untreated?
More bad driving on the Iow
Know what you mean but have a look at driving on the mainland and you will notice it is worse over there
Impossible to treat all roads overnight.
It’s not a major road
there was an Island roads interview yesterday, pretty sure they said they cover around 43% of the roads, which is more than the rest of the country at around 30% or there abouts.
It’s got nothing to do with it being untreated? Bad driving maybe?
So a 4×4 Shogun with traction control, and probably winter tyres too, ends up on it’s roof, in a hedge, in a country lane.
Looks like someone bought a car that wasn’t suitable for their driving skills.
What driving skills?
That 4×4 is built for those sort of conditions, how it ended up like that is a real mystery…..
Speeding comes to mind.
It’s Keir Starmer, taking our taxes and spending it on ill gotten gains and dinghy’s and migrants taking our hard earned cash which should be in the gritters pockets
more gritters less accidents, simple! I’ve had enough of your tosh
Some people need to learn to drive in accordance with the road and weather conditions.
Bullen Rd probably not treated due it not being a main route, even m9re reason to go carefully.
More shit driving in known ice conditions..
Some numpties will never learn.
No one wants to admit that speeding is more than
likely the cause, how else does a vehicle end up in
such a position, ice or no ice.
If driven sensibly in such conditions, all would be
well.
It makes me sick that people drive wrecklessly.
The Bullen road will soon be a major route when Captiva Homes build an access road from it to the approved 475 new homes that will be built on the old Westridge farm!
And so the Island tradition of parking your car on its roof goes on.
It should be part of the island driving test, seems
the norm on the island just like vapes and tatt’s.
So many sheep on the island.
