A car crash involving a Mercedes A220 and a 4×4 in central Newport has prompted a Police response this lunchtime.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was called to the scene of the collision on Upper St James’ Street shortly after 13:00.
The incident has occurred outside Ape Vapes close to the junction with Orchard Street.
Police are helping to direct traffic and recovery of the vehicles is now underway and traffic is flowing once more.

how can you have a crash in such a slow road at most all you can do is 20mph it’s got to be just bad driving i think they need to learn to drive with a driving school and then a retest

WTF. At 60mph pedestrian will have about 99% less chance of survival than at 20mph, the exponential here is massive. Staplers Road is already scary as f*** to cross the road from the bus stop, specially if you’re disabled or a kid, and it’s less than 60mph.
IOW has many places without sidewalks or separated cycling infrastructure for those who can’t drive. And if you “don’t drive” as you suggest then you will be forced to take the risk of instant death going to the shop for a pint of milk in the morning cause Jim Summers wants to drive fast.

You need to ask boyracer as he would of gone through that road at 50 and and park up to get his vape. 20 is plenty on the rock
That rock is getting so boring now with banger cars. Speed limit must drop to 20 mph as 20 is plenty for the rock and it will give you more time to read the road. With other road users and the public that like to walk out in front of you. Roundabout should be approach at 20mph and in second gear to let the traffic flow gently. Not rocket science really.
Shut the road down for three hours , so police can share comments about a monkey riding a pushbike on facebook
