A Ryde man has been fined £80 after a search of his property by Police led to the discovery of 5 cannabis plants.
Eamonn Loughlin, 29, of High Street in Ryde pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled drug of Class B when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary carried out a search of Loughlin’s address on 19th June 2023, said prosecutor Lauren Stone.
During the search of the address, Police found 5x cannabis plants being dried out and a container in the kitchen with some cannabis inside.
Defending, Michael McGoldrick said that his client wasn’t growing cannabis in his house and he was instead drying the plants – that he found in a field near his mum’s house – ready for his personal use.
Magistrates handed Loughlin an £80 fine and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £32 surcharge fee.

Medical cannabis is legal in the UK. If you have a prescription from a doctor, you ferris, it’s been legal for years on a private prescription. and the police can’t do anything about it.
That is correct but if you carry medical cannabis in one pocket that you received via prescription and also carry home grown cannabis in your other pocket, then you will be fined for the home grown cannabis.

Cannabis, should be legal it’s a plant, it’s proven to help many medical conditions. It’s a natural plant with huge benefits. The Uk legal system regarding it is a joke. The government grow more weed than any other European country, they then export it to countries its legal to consume. The owners of these cannabis farms are some of the top people running the Uk. They don’t see it a danger, what they see is £. All the prosecution from cannabis brings the Uk government a very substantial income. If they legalised it this would gone. They no people would grow there own for personal use so they would make less revenue from it for there selfs. People need to see now, we live in a world world that is only interested in how much £ one can make.
My elderly mum was hooked on those legal pain killers from her doctor for over 20 years.
