A Home Office Licence has been granted to allow local firm Vecticanna to begin legally cultivating cannabis for research and development purposes right here on the Isle of Wight – creating up to 60 new local jobs.
The approval comes after a rigorous application and inspection process involving support from top academics, doctors, specialist legal support and even the support of the Island’s MP, Bob Seeley, over the past 2 years.
Based in the West Wight, Vecticanna Ltd will be one of just a handful of approved locations in the UK allowed to legally cultivate various strains of the Class B drug cannabis. The approval grants permission for cultivation for the purposes of Research and Development for the treatment of Fibromyalgia and other conditions related to Neuroinflammation.
The primary focus will be on researching the therapeutic and analgesic (pain relief) potential of cannabinoids and full spectrum cannabis extracts, whilst simultaneously increasing their availability for patients and end consumers.
The facility itself will bring year-round employment opportunities for many Islanders with hopes that the site will eventually employ up to 60 people. The pharmaceutical cannabis marketplace is growing globally and Vecticanna hopes the Isle of Wight can reap the benefits of this.
A solar array will provide lighting and irrigation to the facility and, being a solid structure building, it will allow no light to escape to help protect the Island’s night sky – whilst also ensuring the security of the cannabis inside. The whole research facility will be fenced, highly secured and monitored to deter any potential thieves.
The experienced management team, led by Island resident and Vecticanna CEO Adam Mawer, are passionate about the Isle of Wight and Island businesses. They believe combining the local rich agricultural heritage into this emerging marketplace is a sure-fire recipe for success.
More information about Vecticanna can be found at www.vecticanna.com.
better employ good security then, as that place will be a magnet for junkies.
Junkies? Cannabis makes junkies?
Its the Gateway drug!
Clearly live under a rock
clearly have no idea what your talking about
ill sniff u
Alcohol is the gateway drug, not Cannabis
This is proof that if you don’t know what you’re talking about just don’t comment at all. This “Isle of Wighter” has probably never left the Island.
Good grief you ignorant muppet, I have a UK prescription that includes thc based medical products including flower and edible oil (20mg/ml). If you would like, I’ll show you what a junkie is, and what one isn’t. I’d wrote something more offensive but I simply cannot be arse to flame you. You clearly sont the brain cells to cope, so I’ll be gentlw with your mental health. If youd like a ‘discussion’, bring it on mate. I will annihilate you.
well said my friend. clearly these people have no idea what they are talking about
I would sincerely like to flame you for being an ignorant muppet, but I simply cannot be bothered.
yep -every junkie I have ever known started with nicotine, then alcohol, cannabis, speed, ecstasy, cocaine and heroin, in that order.
If there is good quality weed in that place, then it will be a magnet for junkies to burgle for their own consumption and to sell on to then purchase more heroin.
Gateway drug is absolutely correct.
If every junkie you’ve ever known has started with nicotine how can you can the statement that cannabis is the gate way drug surley its nicotine ?
I’ve used cannabis for over 25 years and I’m now a medical patient and I’ve not once taken and class a drugs other than what doctors have given me .
I think you really need to get with the times and realise there are more than the little pills the doctors give you
Cannabis is the planets oldest medicine but isn’t really a ‘high enabler’ in the strictest sense, more of a physiological healer ;but has been deliberately demonised for decades due to it’s threat to corporate ‘bottom line’.This is an encouraging development and l hope it prospers to the extreme.Modern hash,or skunk as it’s called,is a criminally adulterated (massively strong) product for the reckless thrill seekers, genetically altered by crime cartels and represents serious consequences for users in the criminals target market. It is only available on prescription for the deeper of pockets which is a whole new crime in itself.
Hash & Skunk are two completely different forms of cannabis product – at least try to get your facts right before you post
I presume that there will be a long long waiting list for job application forms.
If they had built it in Ventnor, it would have been full of volunteers, and a big money saver.
Good news story at last.
Will they have a factory outlet shop??
Brilliant comeback
Allof the local drug dealers and users will love this. Hope they have some massive guard dogs amd top notch security in place.
I can’t wait to see how many apply for the jobs. They’ll be queuing round the block from the job centre.
employee’s will also be drug tested every day so they will soon be back on the dole
Now that’s what you call late to the party.
I hope you have very good security. Telling this news on any forum is asking for problems….
Don’t you think it will go public when advertising the jobs?
I have high hopes for this venture
Is this an April Fool
Innovation and new jobs are always welcome 🙂
I give it one day before we see the permission removed because the NIMBY lot are stopping all and any chance of someone building a business on the island and creating jobs for islanders.
As for ‘gateway’ drug comments. Alcohol is also a gateway drug. What makes a drug a ‘gateway’ drug is prohibition. It means that people come in contact with criminality. Remove prohibition and the illegal drug trade will vanish. Holland has had legal drugs for decades and they seem to be doing very nicely. I would give the licence to the pubs. Add some restrictions like only out side or a ‘special’ smoking room with extractors. Will work.
What makes something a gateway drug is lowering of inhibition – Alcohol does this way more effectively than Cannabis – Alcohol is the gateway drug
REVEALED: UK is the world’s biggest producer of medical cannabis 2021. UK has been exporting it for years
Growing weed to help people with a medical condition that the government has stopped patients from getting. Making money off an “illegal” drug. The only good thing about this is it will; provide jobs, but you KNOW the government will be reaping the rewards with probably very little going into the community. Still this is a step in the right direction and it should not be sneered at. 😀
Will they be offering “pick your own,”.
This is no pee take.
My other half has terminal bone cancer. We’ve heard that cannabis (THC) can help relive pain.
She is willing to be a ,say, case study but had no clue where or whom to see about this.
Any clue anyone
Guaranteed the Cannabis grown here will be tasteless and low strength
Why are all those people standing downwind of that field Mummy?
Good job it’s possible that it’s probably the better idea there is much to be gained in the best development of medical marijuana at its very least, and they say money does not grow on trees eh take a step back and think about it, our Island will I’m sure will be great at getting results here there is a lot to be discovered and with the necessary acievments come the benefits
It’s going too bring jobs for the people on the island…
