Get your running shoes on as the Isle of Wight Steam Railway is challenging runners to ‘Race the Train’ on 6th November.

This brand new event for 2021 features a 5km route that winds its way between Wootton and Havenstreet. Runners will travel onboard the train to the start line at Wootton station where the race will begin with the sound of the locomotive’s whistle. Runners will attempt to make it back to Havenstreet before the train, which will traverse the full length of the line to Smallbrook Junction and back.

Steve Backhouse, General Manager, explains:

“Race the Train is a great way to get active this autumn. Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a parkrun plodder, or an active family, this promises to be an event to remember.”

Entry is just £15 for adults and £10 for those under 18. This includes a train journey and medal for all runners. Want to come along and cheer on the racers? Non-running supporters can join the train to give much moral support and a cheery boost.

The Isle of Wight Steam Railway still has a wonderful calendar of events for the remainder of the season, from 1960s weekend on 25th & 26th September, the brand new Beer & Trains event on 9th & 10th October – and not forgetting a wicked Halloween lineup and of course the very festive Santa Specials.
