The Isle of Wight Council has announced the date of the by-election to replace convicted rapist Daryll Pitcher in the Wootton Bridge Electoral Division.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Pitcher finally resigned from the Isle of Wight Council last week, several months after he was found guilty on 2 counts of rape by a jury at the Isle of Wight Crown Court back in February.
On their website, the Isle of Wight Council said that ‘a vacancy has occurred in the Wootton Bridge Electoral Division for 1 member’ and that the election to replace him will be held on Thursday 24th August.
Nominations for candidates will close at 16:00 next Friday (28th July) and eligible voters must be registered by Tuesday 8th August to participate in the election.
It is thought that the seat will be hotely contested as the Conservatives try to regain power of County Hall.
More information including application dates for postal or proxy votes can be found on the Council’s website.

It would be nice to see some candidates who are genuinely interested in promoting the interests of the residents of Wootton, rather than either their own self-interests, or the greed-based policies and corrupt practices of the party they represent.
The problem is, at least half of these local politicians (if not more) are only in it for the kudos and bragging rights (not to mention the possible backhanders) rather than any real interest in helping the local community.
Probably applies to all politicians, come to think of it.
