Coastguard officers from The Needles Coastguard Rescue Team have been kept busy over the past 24 hours, responding to a casualty at Fort Victoria and investigating reports of debris on a beach.
The first shout came in at just before 18:00 yesterday evening (Friday) when the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service requested the assistance of the Coastguard in moving a casualty from the beach at Fort Victoria.
Responding to the call for help, the Coastguard team made their way to the remote spot near Yarmouth to discover a man had injured himself after falling from a rope swing.
The casualty was stretchered to the main car park and later conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by ambulance.
Early this morning (Saturday) the volunteer team were once again tasked by Solent Coastguard, this time to investigate reports of debris on the beach at Brambles Chine near Colwell Bay.
The debris was discovered to be a few empty bulk bags and hundreds of smaller, new bags, which were scattered around and tied in parcels together.
