Bus fares are set to rise on the Isle of Wight following what Southern Vectis has called a challenging 2 years.
The bus operator says that they have carefully reviewed the cost of running buses across the Island and, as a result, have reluctantly decided to increase some ticket prices. However, it’s said that any price rises have been kept to an ‘absolute minimum’.
From 6th February, Single fares will increase by 10-20p and child singles will also be going up – £1.40 for a short hop, £1.90 for a medium hop and £2.40 for a long hop.

There are a number of other changes to period passes and multi-trip bundles, including a £15 increase for 90-day Freedom tickets.

Why do we pay more than twice the price of a 24 hour rover in London? (£4.65 for reference) Bus prices on the Island were ludicrous already let alone after rising. Even with these prices they won’t put on a decent service to most villages.
Now, be fair: as part of the laughably-named Go-Ahead Group they have some very expensive Directors to keep comfortable.
Vectis run a true monopoly, people are really being taken for a very very expensive ride.
They have over the years destroyed all other companies that have tried to run a bus service.
There is simply not a polite way to describe southern vectis, the company is a shithouse
Are double decker buses really needed all over the island. Most buses I see have very few people on. Surely smaller ,less polluting vehicles are better than empty double deckers
Paul thats because Southern Vectis keeps increasing the fare
So a challenging two years – partly because people can’t afford busses. So the solution – increase price.
Vectis already charge too much.
In Guernsey, all bus journeys are £ 1 no matter how long or short
kevin in Europe the fare is also reasonable thats why the bus is allways full
And they wonder why there are more cars on the road?????
A friend of mine went from M and S cowes to The Range £3-50 ,and that’s before the increase .
Really need to start charging a minimum £1 for all the bus pass users, then maybe they wouldn’t have to put price’s up …….
glad i never use em..
Must keep the greedy shareholders happy what joke !! At a time when ministers say leave the car go by public transport hit the workers where it hurts must amongst the dearest bus company in Britain
coming home from Ventnor the other day toward Shanklin the sharp bend off trinity road a bus couldn’t get around so he/she reversed and smashed it to the black and white Ballard. Three times trying to get around before back ending the bus. no wonder the fares are going up probably t do the shoddy driving repairs.
How on earth do people afford to travel on them, just can’t believe what they charge, along with the ferry companies we are being taken on a very expensive ride as usual
this will force more people to use the car the fare is always increased by more than the rate of inflation .you will get a knock on effect . As soon as the fare increases this will push more people on the buses ,then because Southern vectis will lose customers they increase the fare again ,so and so on .
Absolutely disgusting that bus going up as people are struggling to survive on money to feed there family’s
What a RIP Off so does does this mean then with increase the people of bembridge will get an half hour service instead of a crap hourly service?? It’s robin hood in reverse Rob the poor to give to the rich !! Time for driving lessons I think this bus company couldn’t organise a prayer in a mosque
