UPDATED: A bus carrying school children has been involved in a road traffic collision with another vehicle at Wootton Bridge this morning (Monday).
Emergency services are attending the incident near to The Sloop where, according to eyewitness reports, a lorry has collided with a Southern Vectis-operated double decker bus.
The incident took place at around 08:45.
Those on board the Route 9 service say glass has been smashed on an upstairs window and that one child has been slightly injured.
UPDATE @ 09:30 – All children on board the bus have been safely evacuated and are being transferred to alternative transport.
One child is said to have sustained minor cuts whilst another is said to have hit their head after an object from a passing lorry – thought to be part of an air conditioning unit – struck the upper half of the bus.
The incident has taken place on the High Street near to Terry’s Fish and Chips, with the second vehicle having come to stop at Wootton Bridge.
The road remains open.
UPDATE @ 10:31 – The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have not been required to convey any casualties to hospital, but were called to the scene.
