Police, ambulance crews and the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are all in attendance after being called to the scene shortly after 08:35 this morning.
Southern Vectis has confirmed that a stationary school bus was damaged when two cars collided, before one struck the offside of the bus.
Fortunately, none of the pupils on the way to Carisbrooke College were injured but were shaken up by the crash. Another bus took them to the school where they were met by teachers.
Island Echo understand a car overtook the coach as it was picking up a student, before colliding head on with an oncoming vehicle.
Firefighters are working to free two persons who have become trapped in their vehicles.
Two helicopters were placed on standby earlier this morning but one has since been stood down.
One casualty has been transferred by land ambulance from the scene to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport, while another casualty is currently being transferred by helicopter from the scene to Southampton University Hospital.
According to Island Roads, Middle Road has been closed between Chessell Road and Wilmingham Lane and will remain closed until at least this afternoon, indicating the seriousness of the injuries sustained by those involved.
UPDATE @ 11:25 – It is understood those children who witnessed the collision have been excused from attending school today.
Initial reports suggest one male and one female have been involved in the incident.
