Southern Water has confirmed that repair work to fix a burst sewer at Appley Park in Ryde is set to begin this evening (Thursday).
The utility company has said that teams are using Appley Car Park to store essential equipment required for the work.
Tankers have been deployed to manage wastewater flows throughout the duration of the repair in order to minimise disruption, whilst around 12 rented storage tanks are also on site.
It is unclear how exactly the burst occurred or when the repair will be completed.
The Isle of Wight Council-owned car park was used to store equipment back in November when a rising main burst on the nearby Appley Road, as previously reported Island Echo.
There is currently no parking available at Appley Car Park.
A spokesperson for Southern Water has said:
“Our teams are due to repair a burst sewer at Appley Park near Ryde.
“To carry out the necessary work, our teams will be using Appley Car Park to store essential equipment.
“The repair is scheduled to begin tonight and we’ll be deploying tankers to manage wastewater flows throughout the repair process.
“We apologise for any inconvenience and disruption during this time.”
