Burnt cooking led to a call out for firefighters from Freshwater and Newport this morning (Monday). Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was alerted shortly after 09:00 to reports of an alarm sounding and smoke issuing at a property on Brookside Road, Freshwater. Appliances were mobilised to the scene, with a retained crew from Freshwater first to arrive. It was soon established that smoke had been caused by burnt cooking, which resulted in crews from Newport being stood down whilst en-route to the West Wight. Firefighters conducted a home fire safety visit before leaving the scene and returning to station following the stop message at 09:38.
