No arrests have yet been made after a pharmacy in Ryde was robbed of medication after being broken into not once, but twice this week.
Police were called at around 04:43 on Sunday morning (18th January) following a break-in at Boots Pharmacy at Tower House on Rink Road in Ryde.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary responded and launched an investigation into the break-in.
Now, Police are once again back at the pharmacy following yet another break-in – the latest in a series of burglaries in recent months.
It was at 01:18 this morning (Friday) that Police received reports of a second burglary at the premises.
It has been confirmed that on both occasions, a window had been smashed, and medication appeared to have been stolen. This is despite window bars having recently been installed to prevent access.
It appears the burglar, or burglars, rifled through bags of medication before disgarding the rubbish across the shop floor.
A spokesperson for the force has said:
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish what was taken and no arrests have been made at this time.
“If you find or are offered prescription medication not from a pharmacy in the area, please call 101 quoting incident number 44250419077”.
Boots Pharmacy is closed until further notice, although staff hope to re-open the store later today.
Last month, NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight told local councillors that the number of incidents at pharmacies on the Island, in particular Ryde and Newport, was more than what would be considered normal.
James Roach, Director of Primary Care and Local Care, said that the NHS had agreed a number of changes to help pharmacies prevent future break ins, with funding agreed on a one-off basis.

They need to put this scum away in jail
Send all the lowlife for conscription first if the time ever comes. No use to anyone or any loss
You’d want the country defended by criminals and drug addicts then, would you? In the event of war, half of them would either be off their faces or rattling.
No normal person would fight for this country,
look at the way ex veterans are looked after,
not to mention what world leaders say about
servicemen.
If caught. Our judges! who always appreciate a fairy tale, do nothing. Maybe 10 minutes on the naughty step.
Pointless having window bars on only some of your windows. You are only as secure as your weakest point of entry.
Very true, alarms and CCTV are also required,
not to mention more bars.
Again no cctv? it don’t cost much..
Cheap as chips thesedays and easily installed
Best way to STOP numpties
