Reports that a building was on fire in Upper Ventnor sparked a large response from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service earlier tonight (Tuesday).
3 appliances from Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor were mobilised to Newport Road between Wroxall and Ventnor at just before 21:10 following 999 reports of a building fire. A fourth appliance from Ryde was placed on standby.
The first crews on scene were able to quickly determine that the building fire was in fact controlled burning – a bonfire.
All appliances have now stood down and returned to station.
