Financial pressure has led to a decision by the British Red Cross to sell its headquarters building in Newport, with an asking price of £750,000. The British Red Cross has had a presence at Towngate/Hunnyhill for decades. Their HQ was previously located at the former Soldiers Home & Institute building, which was open until around 1935. When the area was redeveloped to form the new Hunnycross Way junction and Sainsbury’s development in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the Red Cross built a much larger, modern headquarters across the road. Now, 25 years later, the decision has been made to sell up, with the charity citing financial pressures due to increasing costs as the primary reason. The 4,300sqft property, laid out across 2 floors, has been put on the open market for £750,000 freehold. It boasts extensive parking in a prime location. It’s said that there will be no change to services on the Isle of Wight, with assurances that the charity will be retaining its physical presence on the Island, with further details to be revealed in due course. A spokesperson for the British Red Cross has this week told Island Echo:
“There will be no change to our services on the Isle of Wight and we will continue to be there for those in crisis. “Like many charities, businesses and households, we are facing the financial pressures of increasing costs so we are reducing the number of properties we run. “Our priority will continue to be helping all those that need us, including those on the Isle of Wight.”

Yet the country is spending millions a year on illegals and their numerous offspring, all to become ‘legal’ once Labour give an amnesty encouraging even more to arrive.
Disgusting, that this wonderful institution has to sell up and go. Vote Reform.
Another gargantuan leap. From selling a property to illegal immigration.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Reform now lead by Nigel Farage? The same guy that helped lead the country out of Europe, but then ensured that his own kids were registered as German (as well as UK ) citizens, which entitles them to now live unhindered in Europe and the UK, a luxury that the rest of us no longer have? Is that the same guy?
Make it worse labour get in will destroy country..bloody rayner wants to rebuild bloody gaza and plasticene..
Not being funny but all these charities do lotteries for anything between £1000 and £10, 000 prize draws and then bleat poverty and lack of funds , mind blowing
Do you not understand how lotteries work or what? They put on a lottery so that people enter and they give a portion of the take as winnings. They aren’t just giving money away
You haven’t a clue how things work, love
50 overpriced, badly built shoeboxes it is then, with the obligatory brown envelope.
If the powers that be hadnt scrapped the First Aid at Public events element of its offerings of service, then maybe there wouldnt be the need to sell the building, First Aid at public Events was a great income for the Red Cross
No it wasn’t – that’s why they stopped doing it and as another charity was operating in that space, St John, it made sense that two national charities weren’t doing the same thing.
Surely the Red Cross can’t be that strapped for cash with donations totalling around 400 million quid per year
