Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that new restrictions are being brought in across England, including the closure of takeaways, pubs and restaurants at 22:00 every night – and they could be in place for the next 6 months.
Although businesses can stay open in a COVID compliant way, office workers are being encouraged, once again, to work from home if possible.
From Thursday, all restaurants, bars and pubs must operate a table service only, except for takeaway, and will have to close their doors by 22:00 each night. Takeaways must also close at 22:00 every night, although deliveries can continue past this time.
For the first time, retail staff are being told to wear face coverings, as are passengers in taxis and private hire vehicles. For retail, leisure and tourism businesses, COVID-secure guidelines are to become legal obligations and they could be closed if they don’t comply.
Schools, colleagues and universities are to remain open though.
There is more bad news for those getting wed, with a maximum of 15 people now allowed to attend weddings and ceremonies, but up to 30 can still attend a funeral.
In sport, all adult indoor team sports must now comply with the Rule of 6 and sports clubs will not be able to re-open to larger crowds from 1st October as previously planned.
Today’s announcement is not a return to a full lockdown but Boris has warned that he will introduce stricter conditions if the R Rate does not fall below 1. He said ‘a stitch in time saves nine’.
News that the restrictions could be in place for 6 months means that Christmas parties and New Years Celebrations are looking unlikely at this time.
The COVID Alert Level has already been raised from Level 3 to Level 4, as the ‘R Rate’ increases to between 1.1 to 1.4. .
Fines for failing to wear a mask or breaking the Rule of 6 have doubled from £100 to £200.
Finally, vulerable people are being reassured that they do not need to shield unless living in a local lockdown area.

1) Why is it called the Coronavirus Act not Covid-19
2) Why are you continuing to use a testing system that is picking up RNA from weeks ago meaning thousands of people aren’t infectious.

Re covid19, we’re closer to the end than the middle. It’s completely implausible that any “secondary ripple”, which is what the minor re-emergence amounts to, will be even a fraction the size of the likely death toll of the average seasonal influenza outbreak we’re about to face. That`s because of censorship…plenty of professors/scientists/virologists/doctors etc saying something completely different from the narrative, but no-one is hearing them…Actions I would propose is common sense and herd immunity, whilst isolating any people that are vulnerable.We should not quarantine the healthy.

Agree with common sense. Herd immunity very difficult to achieve, takes time and requires a high percentage of the population to catch the virus. Also to do it and shield the vulnerable creates a two-tier society, something i would guess you and many are against, where say everyone over 50 and anyone of any age with underlying health issues stays in lockdown for a long time. Every action has a consequence.
If you were familiar with what COVID can do and who it affects then you wouldn’t think herd immunity is a good idea. People of all ages have died from this terrible virus, not just the elderly, vulnerable with underlying health conditions. This virus has taken the lives of young healthy people. Wake up and realise we all need to act in a responsible way, listen to what the medical advisors are saying, not Boris and his cronies, they haven’t a bloody clue!

The Covid-19 issue is not all about number of deaths from it but the implications of it. More sick people hospitalised by it creates a further drain on stretched NHS resources that would otherwise be focused on cancer management. We have seen evidence of this as a result of the first lockdown with patient treatments delayed by months. UK cancer deaths increase by c.4% a year, this will undoubtedly be higher if Covid is allowed to flourish.

Prof Carl Heneghan, the head of the Centre for Evidence Based Medicine at Oxford University, says the current situation is “utter chaos” with a constant stream of new restrictions and schools sending whole year groups home when just one person tests positive. All this at a time when the level of infection is still very low.
This, Prof Heneghan says, is the consequence of trying to suppress the virus. Instead, he argues we should accept it is here to stay and try to minimise the risks, while balancing that against the consequences of the actions we take.
In particular, he’s concerned the Covid test is actually so sensitive it’s picking up what is effectively dead virus as it spots traces of it months after the person has stopped being infectious.
“We need to slow down our thinking. But every time the government sees a rise in cases it seems to panic,” he said.

You will probably find that China is a more law abiding country than we are. If they are told to do something for their own good, they will do it. They didn’t have hoards of youngsters flocking to beaches, pubs, illegal gatherings or raves etc like we did over here spreading the virus.
In my experience they do tend to follow rules and regulations, which has obviously paid off. Unfortunately a lot of Brit mentality is “you’re not the boss of me, I will do what I like when I like so F you”. Hence the situation we are in now. It doesn’t help that our government don’t seem to know their arse from their elbow.

With up to half a million people walking round with the virus with no symptoms there is no chance of controlling the virus. Those that are at risk will have to self isolate with help from the state.

Lifelong immunity from this virus has never been proved, intact there’s records of people getting two different types of Covid19 4.5 months apart.
There are long term conditions from the virus which are still being studied.
With no immunity, there is no herd immunity, there is repeated damage to the same people a few times per year.
This would be like death by a thousand cuts, even for healthy people. Anything is possible until we know more so I just urge you naysayers to be cautious.

What bozo really needs to sort out is the testing so people can get tested quickly and if negative then they can return to work, school or whatever the hell anyone does. the current testing system is a complete and utter joke. And what is dangerous is sending people sometimes over 80 miles away to get tested. And if these people don’t have cars then they would probably use public transport and I’m} sure not one of them would tell any ferry, bus or taxi company thier on the way to get covid tested and how many people have done this?
You are using a faulty test procedure as it will pick up so many false positives. Watch as they test more people the figures will rise.

Testing was reduced over summer and has hardly increased since yet cases have more than doubled.

The figures are always going to be high when we do more tests than nearly everybody in europe. Also when aprox half million people are walking around with the virus and not aware then controls are futile. Just be safe and let the virus take its course. I was recently in a
garden centre near Tesco’s the person wiping the tables used the same cloth on every table.
