A man was detained, questioned and then released with a verbal warning after allegedly stealing a water bottle at a popular Isle of Wight attraction yesterday (Saturday). Police responded on blue lights and sirens to The Needles Landmark Attraction at Alum Bay shortly before 13:00. 3 units – including the Island’s Armed Response Vehicle – were all seen at the West Wight beauty spot. A topless male was detained near the coach park and arrested – thought to be on suspicion of theft. Officers spent more than an hour on scene before eventually dearresting the male and giving him a verbal warning. It is unclear why petty theft prompted a notable emergency response.
