
The IWTTA Winter Table Tennis League continued over the weekend with big wins for a number of teams.
Division 1

Both Havenstreet A and Newport Vics A had big wins this week with whitewashes over Havenstreet B and Shanklin Skuas respectively.
Ryde A and Ryde C contested a much closer match, with the A team leading 5-4 heading into the doubles, after some close and hard fought games. The C team’s Alex Rorke and Tim Giles got the better of the A team’s Scott Lawson and Mark Turner in four sets and the match ended in a draw.

Newport Vics B showed their class as they got the better of their club mates Newport Vics C, who are newly promoted from Division Three. However, the C team’s Paul Lewis scored a five set victory over Michael Jose and was unlucky to lose a five setter to Dave Newnham; whilst Lewis’s team mate Chris Gordine also took Jose to five sets, losing on deuce. The A team won 9-1.
Match of the week was contested between Ryde Rascals and Ryde Relatives, with junior player Ethan Millward player of the match for the Relatives, playing alongside his twin brother Joseph and grandad Martin Dove. The Rascals Stephen Gibbons, playing up from Division Three last season, also had a good night, winning two. The match ended in a draw.

Close matches were in short supply this week in Division Three, with St Lawrence Lizards and Shorwell Spinners scoring 10-0 victories over Ryde Rhinos and Ryde Retailers respectively. The Spinners head the table with fellow Shorwell team the Saints tied in second place with St Lawrence.
