The spa at The Heights has now reopened after a three-week closure caused by ‘pollution from public contamination’.
In recent weeks, 1 Leisure — the council’s fitness branch — has said it has had to close the health suite at The Heights in Sandown as people used bath bombs in the jacuzzi, wore Deep Heat, fake tan and makeup, did not shower before use and did not wash off deodorants.
Each of those items has upset the delicate chemical balance required to maintain a safe and clean environment within the spa, a council spokesperson said. To make everything safe for use requires the Leisure Centre to shut the suite and rebalance levels while flushing all the products out.
So far, the council has had to replace 400kg of sand used in the filtration system and 35,000 gallons of water to clean the systems and refill the spa. The authority has reiterated the guidance and correct etiquette for using the health suite which includes ensuring you are clean and do not have any products on your skin.
It also includes not wearing the same kit as you may have in the gym, squash courts or fitness classes. Users must also take a shower before using the spa or different areas of the health suite, therefore not introducing foreign substances into the water.
Essences and oils are forbidden in the health suite, as is shaving. Signs and specialist advice for the spa, sauna and steam room are on display at The Heights as a reminder.
The spa was also been closed earlier in the year to replace a heater as well as seals on the sand water filter.

What a waste of public money for just a few selfish twits, islanders are going to be on water restrictions again this year and some are going hungry and homeless and yet council see it ok to waste 35,000gallons of water and lot’s of money for something so unimportant – just close it.
No way would I ever even dip my toe in a public jacuzzi. Some real dirty unwashed buggers out there!
Obviously the instructions are too complicated, or the people using it are too thick! Either way, close this elitist spa thing down, and spend taxpayers money sensibly.
Can someone please enlighten me, what exactly are ‘bath bombs’? Is that a euphemism for sh*t? I doubt it, aren’t they commonly known as ‘floaters’?
Skinny, no, it is not poo, although no doubt small smears of such will be on unwashed lower regions and swirl around the water, but hopefully whilst disgusting lying in strangers ‘anal soup’ it will have any germs killed by chlorine, but it will still be swirling in the water.
A bath bomb is just a concoction of bicarbonate of soda, and sickly sweet artificial scented chemicals in the shape of a large gobstopper.
It will fizz and break apart in water to scent and colour the water to the delight of those impressed by such gimmicks such as children, and over pampered women normally.
Harmless in small doses but in the ‘sue’ culture days, I guess some odd ball could have an ‘allergy’ so the world has to stop for them nowadays.
Why do we all have to pay for this thing? Surely it should be up to those who use it to pay for it. Totally wrong it is financed out of public funds.
You would have to be mad getting in a public jacuzzi with all that public urine and excrement slopping around.
