A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery after a male was ordered to hand over cash in Shanklin this afternoon (Monday). 8 Police units responded out of Newport to the scene on Atherley Road, Shanklin at just before 13:30. Reports had been received that a man had been threatened in Shanklin with demands made for him to hand over money. It has been confirmed that officers arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of attempted robbery just 30 minutes later. He remains in custody at this time.
It’s believed the parties involved are known to each other, Police say. A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“The investigation is in the very early stages and enquiries remain ongoing”.
