Artwork by internationally renowned artists is helping to spark memories, encourage conversations and bring a splash of colour to 2 Isle of Wight care centres ahead of International Artists Day on Sunday (25th October).
A collection of 7 artworks from around the world has gone on display at The Adelaide in Ryde and The Gouldings in Freshwater, giving people staying at the centres the opportunity to enjoy a cultural experience.
Inspired by the Art on Your Doorstep exhibition in Newport, the displays feature copies of creations by artists from across the globe, with the aim of encouraging reflection, stimulating memories and inspiring conversation.
Among the artists featured are Frida Kahlo and Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai, alongside photography by Julia Margaret Cameron, who created many of her celebrated works at Dimbola Lodge on the Isle of Wight.
The exhibition has been designed to show how art can connect people, encourage personal reflection and provide opportunities for meaningful engagement.
Natalie Barker, Activities and Wellbeing Coordinator, has said:
“It has been great seeing people staying with us enjoying the artwork, learning about how it was created and, when engaging with it, sometimes even learning a bit about themselves.”
Both The Adelaide and The Gouldings are Care Quality Commission-registered resource centres operated by the Isle of Wight Council.
The centres support individuals in improving their independence within a relaxed and social environment, while also providing planned short stays.
The artwork will help provide an additional opportunity for those using the centres to explore different cultures, share experiences and engage with creative works.
