ARREST MADE AFTER TRAFFIC WARDEN ATTACKED OUTSIDE NEWPORT SCHOOLS

An Isle of Wight traffic warden has been left with a bloodied face after being attacked by an angry motorist outside 2 schools in Newport this morning (Tuesday).

The assault – thought to have been triggered by the traffic warden simply doing his job – happened shortly before 09:00 on Wellington Road, directly outside Christ the King College and Carisbrooke Primary Schools.

Island Echo understands the civil enforcement officer was walking along the road when a car pulled up and a motorist jumped out, punching the traffic warden in the face and leaving him with blood streaming down.

Learning of the incident, staff at Christ the King College welcomed the civil enforcement officer inside to the dry and warm ahead of the arrival of Police and Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault. He remains in custody at this time and enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police on 101, quoting 44230122556.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council has told Island Echo:

Article continues below this advertisement

“We take abusive behaviour directed at our officers extremely seriously and council staff should be able to do their job without fear of violence.

“This incident is a police matter and it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.

“We are supporting the Civil Enforcement Officer involved.”

If you can’t follow the rules then should not be driving. I hope the traffic warden recovers soon. They are there to help protect the children as they go to school. If you think the thug that did this is right then you also support reckless driving that endangers children.

The road to that school is long and fairly wide and straight. So cars could easily and safely be allowed to park for the few minutes to take kids to school safely. All yellow lines should be taken away.

A child being forced to walk to school, with the druggy drivers, vans speeding to earn as much as possible and the old age pensioners, DESPITE having all day to go to the blood clinic ‘HAVE’ to go out on the short time span that people are parked by their pre coffin bungalows is selfish.

We all need to work together to help ease risk, and allowing parking and getting classes open early is the way forward, NOT more restrictions for cars.

Are you for real?
Kids should be made to walk to school. Less cars on the road, exercise for the kids and it gives them a chance to walk with other kids and actually socialise instead of staring at phones. Am I wrong in thinking the schools have catchment zones so kids are never further than a few miles away?? I used to walk about 45 mins to get to school rain or shine. Some of the best times had on the way home with friends causing mischief.
Sorry we don’t like people having fun anymore. Everything should be wrapped in cotton wool. My apologies

In my day, we walked, cycled, or got the bus…The school run didn’t exist, no snowflake attitudes then,…teaching children to stand on their own two feet prepares them for real life….we live in sad times now, because of snowflake attitudes…

That was before the government decided to close all the small schools people have to drive now and all the schools are in silly places where there is no where to stop to drop off the kids .I agree some could walk but as for cycling thats just dangerous now it’s not the 70s unfortunately to many idiots out there

Civil. Enforcement officers aka traffic wardens why not try getting a proper job?

Why is it not considered a “proper job” in your world? Or shall we all just go on the dole and let people park where they want outside a school? What is far more concerning is that people cannot go to work and not be assaulted just for doing their job.

Could not agree more.sneaking around trying to catch people with fixed penalty notices for no reason except to top up their commission.sack the lot of them and install cctv much fairer way of penalising motorists.

The problem people have with these wardens is like the Police and their speed cameras, these people are not deployed where maximum safety is the issue, but where maximum profit is.

Whilst parents do park outside schools, it is only for a few minutes, and if driving slowly it is not a problem.

I have seen these wardens even when the Lollipop man was ill, they would not stand in and do his job to ensure the children’s safety, but they would stick tickets on cars, allegedly “for the safety of children.”

Whilst violence is not acceptable, it is understandable and as people are getting less and less parking, will increase.

Surely you should be expected to be safe when working. This is disgusting and it is up to

try living near a school when we can’t get a wheelchair or pram up the road because these idiots think the pavement is a free car park at drop off and pickup time. Many will arrive up to an hour early and just sit and chill whilst we try to get our own cars parked somewhere near our homes.. worst of all watch an Ambulance have to stop and park in the road whilst the paramedics run 500 metres to someones home, and then listen to the mums shout because they cant get out. God forbid we need a fire engine.. Someone will die!

Or even their and lurk? There are plenty of legitimate parking spaces to drop off and pick up children on the side roads to Wellington Road, speaking from daily experience, and I have seen some awful and dangerous parking in the area by self entitled people whose kids are presumably too precious to walk 50 metres.

Feel free to come and stand outside the school near us, where you can witness the dangerous parking and near misses on a daily basis, when a child gets hit by a car you’ll be the first one raving about the standard of driving, until then its oh the poor parent is only stopping for 2 mins to pick little Jonnie up

And no doubt the defence lawyer will trot out the usual, ill treated as a brat, just coming off drugs, such a good boy really, adhd, ptsd, just lost his pet hamster and the magistrates will give him a gentle slap on the wrist and tell him to be a good boy, he will be rolling round laughing outside the courts.
That was ABH but i doubt the plod will charge it with that because that would mean doing too much paperwork.

I hope the book is thrown at this ignorant thug. Too many self-entitled parents think it’s okay to drop their little darlings off as close to the school as humanly possible, ignoring all the yellow lines, zig zags and warning signs. They couldn’t give a hoot that they are putting other children at risk by their selfish parking.

What rot. IF parents were allowed to drop off their children and the schools allowed the kids to enter the classrooms earlier, than be stood out in the rain getting wet, then parents could drop them and go.

As it is, they have to get their early to gain a place and then block the roads if raining as they don’t want their children getting soaked before the day starts so they wait till school classrooms are open.

Get the lazy teachers to be in class early to allow for children arriving early.

I saw footage of a young male traffic warden being very full on and abusive to an elderly lady at the top of the high St in Newport last week. She was clearly upset and flustered and not one person went to her aid. He was a power driven bully picking on someone that could not defend herself. Maybe it was the same traffic warden and the lady’s grandson ????

It’s possible. From the way the incident is described the traffic warden was just walking along the road when the thug stopped and assaulted him. Sounds like it could have been something personal. I hope the thug gets a proper (custodial) sentence, but that is highly unlikely over here.

Interesting point. I can see by the amount of thumbs down your comment has received that people dont see it from your perspective. Rest assured that if one of their grandmother’s was verbally abused and left upset, they’d just leave it at that because you mustn’t stand up to bullies these days, bullies have rights. Yawn

If it was their grandmother these people would be fuming and slagging off the traffic warden. The footage was very disturbing. I really don’t understand how some people think. There are ways of explaining to an elderly person that they are parked illegally and shouting at her is not one of them. I hope it made this young man feel good as he probably wouldn’t behave that way to another man !

What has that got to do with anything? “Someone that could not defend herself”, from what a parking ticket? That is why they have an appeals process!

So if someone is rude to me at work, I can punch them in the face? Moronic behaviour!

Traffic Wardens do a great job, shame they don’t patrol the Roads in Ryde.

They could issue fines to all the vehicles that park on pavements along
Great Preston Rd.

They would have a field day along Great Preston Rd
Vehicles park on pavements o/s the old council houses
24 Hours a day.

People can’t go round intimidating people weaker than them and not expect to get what’s coming to them. If it was a random attack from a “thug” then fine, he deserves all the hate. Unfortunately, regardless if you like it or not, bullies deserve to be dealt with.

By all means complain about someone’s behaviour or perceived bullying to their employer but physically attacking someone who is at work (and therefore is unlikely to fight back) is absolutely pathetic and moronic. I lived in the U.S for a year and if someone attacked a traffic officer over there, there’s a good chance they’d be shot.

What if you were in that position though? The position of having a loved one being spoken to and treated in a horrible and intimidating way and they couldn’t stick up for themselves? Do you really think telling their boss is going to stop them from doing it to someone else? People are quick to judge without seeing things from all people’s perspectives.

It’s clearly disgusting that someone doing their job is assaulted like this, especially outside a school. However there is one particular traffic warden in Newport that clearly loves his job too much. I saw him giving tickets to cars parked on double yellow lines even though the road was closed to through traffic as it was blocked by long term road works. Made my blood boil – but I still didn’t punch the twat

I think you will find that if you are issued with a parking notice – you are entitled to appeal it

For one the traffic warden was doing his job. He was not the same officer that was on Video last week. The car in question parks out side of school everyday!! They get tickets every week. Think they would learn. On the day in question the warden question the female driver , he said she had five minutes before he could issue a ticket. The abuse then started at the traffic officer saying my bloke is going to waste you. She then drove past me on her mobile phone to her bloke. The traffic warden then walked to the bus stop outside the primary school where he was assaulted, caught on camera . Then the female attacked another female parent. Yes outside of a primary school!!! Hope the lock him up .

It’s time for schools to put a stop to the school time madness. Every morning and afternoon, school roads are infested with idiots dropping off kids, blocking the roads, causing mayhem, creating a dangerous situation. Its madness for an hour each day. Start imposing heavy fines on people parking dangerously and blocking up the roads. Stagger entry / exit times for pupils, use the school car parks to create a car queue to keep cars off the highways. Even better, WALK to school if you live within 1-2 miles.

WOW unless and even then there was a valid reason for this assault we shouldn’t speculate, but I do hope the Traffic Warden recovers from the shock and pain. No one has the right to injure another – unless it is in self defence.

If You obey the law you won’t have a problem, the problem is that feral pond life have not been properly parented, are not taught boundaries and spit their dummy when their egotistical self entitled actions are rightly thwarted and called into question.

People think they can do what they want. If their child was run over and killed after running out from a parked car on a double yellow outside a school i bet i know what their response would be!

Hope he gets the book thrown at him and social services scrutinizing his parenting ability to boot. Worse than scum, as at least this floats on the surface.

Was it by any chance the man who whilst “doing his job” got caught on camera verbally abusing a older women who was getting into her car already? Gesticulating in a aggressive manor and shouting when all he has to do for his job is write a ticket and take a photo… if so then good! If it was a random act of violence then obviously not so much… the video of the incident above has been all over Facebook so I wouldn’t be surprised

There is no connection with the old lady video, that was another guy. I was there and I saw a young woman giving a lot of abuse to other women and to the traffic warden. She then drove off and returned with her partner in the car. He got out the passenger seat and run towards the traffic warden on the bus stop and hit him with incredible violence while the traffic warden wasn’t even looking. The poor man stood on the spot bleeding like unbelievable and we went there to help. He was just helping cars to quickly drop kids off and go..so other parents could do the same and help traffic flow! What happened is simply outrageous!
