On Saturday 17th October, a number of members of the Island’s ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ team walked from Parkhurst Military Cemetery to Sandown War Memorial to raise awareness of the current Royal Marines charity event.
After a short poignant service at the cemetery and the laying of remembrance crosses upon the graves of 3 Royal Marines, the team set off on their walk towards Sandown War memorial. They carried remembrance crosses inscribed with the names of the 3 Royal Marines and laid these at the War Memorial, Sandown.
The ‘Around the World in 80 days’ fundraiser began on the 1st September and is due to finish on 19th November. The 11 team members from the Island are mostly Royal Marines or ex-servicemen/women.
The team’s target is to cover whopping 24,901 miles over the 80 days.
