ARMED POLICE MOVE IN ON 2 PROPERTIES

UPDATED: Armed Police have surrounded a residential property in Freshwater this evening (Tuesday).

4 officers, with weapons drawn, have descended on Jubilee Close in the town. A dog support unit is also on scene.

The Armed Response Vehicles silently entered the area at around 16:50.

UPDATE @ 18:15 – In what appears to be a case of a mistaken address, Armed Police have redeployed to Jubilee Close in Godshill.

At the new location an elderly male has been arrested and is being taken into custody at Newport Police Station. Exactly what the gentleman has been arrested on suspicion of remains unclear.

Armed Officers are now conducting a search of a detached bungalow whilst colleagues conduct door to door enquiries with neighbours.

There is not thought to be any risk to the public.

UPDATE @ 21:55 – According to Island Echo sources, a cold caller was verbally threatened by an individual after calling on a property this afternoon.

The Police were initially told the address was in Freshwater, but it later transpired that the address was actually in Godshill. The cold caller is not thought to be local to the area.

UPDATE – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a 67-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He has since been released from custody but remains under investigation.
