Armed Police were deployed to Lake earlier this evening (Friday) amid fears a man was in possession of a gun. Multiple units responded out of Newport at speed – heading through Arreton to The Bay – shortly after 17:15 following a 999 call reporting a concerning sighting in the vicinity of Lake High Street. It had been reported that a male was stood at a bus stop in the area with what appeared to be a firearm. A search was launched, which is thought to have extended to the Sandown High Street area, but nothing was located. Authorisation for an armed deployment was revoked and the incident stood down. No further reports have been received since.
