An application has been submitted to demolish the public toilets at Yaverland Car Park. Plans launched at the end of July show that works to replace the existing facilities – first touted at the beginning of 2024 – are moving at pace. At a Sandown Town Council meeting back in February, members agreed to get a £250,000 loan to finance the new facilities located on the site at Yaverland Car Park.
Installed in their place, would be 1x disabled cubicle and 3x standard unisex ones, with 2x external showers. It is said that the site will be leveled and the area around the conveniences landscaped, with it hoped the site will look similar in style to those at Eastern Gardens.
As previously reported by Island Echo, it is expected that the toilets – which in their current state are free to use – will be paid for.
The new facilities will be provided by Danfo, with work set to begin after the Summer Holidays in October. Anyone wishing to comment on the application can do so here until 23rd August.
