As first reported by Island Echo, at just after 13:00 on Friday (24th April) one of the Island’s Roads Policing Unit BMW X5s collided with a VW Golf on The Broadway, Sandown resulting in an elderly woman being cut free from the wreckage of her car by the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
Now, Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward to help with the investigation into what happened.
Witnesses have told Island Echo that a van travelling north on The Broadway indicated left to pull over, resulting in a 65-year-old woman pulling out of a side road and into the path of the oncoming Police car, which was responding to an emergency call at the time using blue lights.
The 52-year-old male Police officer was discharged from hospital on Friday, whilst the elderly VW Golf Driver has been treated for non-life threatening injuries. Her car travelled some distance and was involved in a secondary collision with a belisha beacon.
Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact Sergeant Wayne Voller at the Havant Roads Policing unit on 101 quoting Operation Cotillion.
