Another 2 people have died in hospital of COVID-19, according to the latest data from NHS England.
The deaths occurred on Saturday (7th November) and Sunday (8th November) and brings the total number of people to die at St Mary’s Hospital of COVID-19 to 46.
It was only yesterday that Island Echo reported on 2 deaths in hospital on Friday 6th November, meaning 4 people died within 3 days.
The total number of people to die from the virus since the start of the pandemic, according to their death certificate, now sits at 96. 46 of these deaths have occurred in hospital, 46 in care homes, 3 at home and 1 at the hospice.
Latest data on cases reveals that a total of 770 cases have been confirmed on the Isle of Wight since the start of the pandemic. Interestingly, since the lockdown came into force on 5th November the number of cases being identified daily has fallen significantly – from 22 on 5th, 15 on 6th and 9 on 7th down to 1 yesterday (10th November).

Numbers appear to be different for cases on the Island yesterday.
Only 1 case the Island Echo says, CP reports more who do we belive ?
Take a look at corona uk live map it gives more of an update than on here to how many have been infected, if it’s right or wrong information who knows?
Sadly it matters not. The fact is people are dying a horrible death from this, and yet some, until it hits their family or friends, just don’t worry, either because they are afraid, in denial, or imagine it to be some Gov conspiracy but fail to explain for what advantage.
The rest of us just try to hope the odds of dying are low enough not to worry too much, but are trying to avoid the risk of catching it, as we don’t want to get seriously ill from ordinary flu, let alone this, which can cause blood clots which cause life changing damage to various parts of the body.
The deaths, and those infected to the world are mere numbers, but those people are all individuals, some now gone, others left ruined, whist others escape with little or no harm. We shouldn’t see this as just a game of ‘luck’ but do our best to avoid anywhere we don’t need to go, or people we have no need to mix with.
Excellent post Ivy. Not sure why people are voting you down. What you have stated is the truth. Perhaps people on this site are in denial or just don’t understand the severity of CV19??????? The UK has now surpassed 50,000 deaths from this terrible disease, highest in Europe. Appalling considering the UK is an island. Being surrounded by water the government should have closed the UK down back at the beginning of the year, nobody in, nobody out. This would have kept the infection rate down considerably, then, when they reopened to the rest of the world, testing should have been in place at the airports….which it wasn’t. Even France, Germany, Holland who are all landlocked countries have fewer deaths than the UK!!!!!!
I think one reason is the density of population and the fact that we have imported many of the kind that don’t as a rule, abide by rules and laws, thinking they are ‘above’ fault, for they are now certainly ‘above being criticised’ in this PC mental world.
Yes, Poppy.
The government website reported a rise of 8, yesterday. Maybe the Echo has more information on the exact dates people tested positive. Since the 5th November, 86 new cases have been reported on the government website. Of course they may have become infected before lock down.
At least 5 people in Ventnor have tested positive, where are those stats then ????
This is why putting too much stock in how empty st Mary’s is or how few have been on icu/ventilator beds is pointless.
Many patients are too ill/ needing to stay in that area to limit the spread through the hospital to get into icu.
Deaths are clearly still happening, cases are exploding, nationally as well as in the island, schools are massively being affected now too, we need a full March style lockdown ASAP.
The graphic used to introduce this sad story must be traumatic to the loved ones of the deceased, it’s almost a sensationalis graphic…
Very Sad…
Echo are just another media point who do the scaremongering sooo well!.give it a rest .death rates numbers ….welll hey guys…Take with a pinch of salt.
Flues doing rounds now deaths will happen.
But obv the preferred word to be used is covid.makes for great sheep scaring fodder.
Let’s be honest if you brainwashed outdoor fresh Air maskwearers did your homework youd realise covid isnt black death. Un called for mass hysteria is getting on people’s nerves now
Yawn…
So Echo, how about each death you feel need too post as it sooo necessary..give the ages.go on
You are sum twat liz wake up….. there are a lot of people out there who have not seen there loved ones for months do you think that is a choice, and try telling someone your mother or dad has just passed away, I hope you dont need the NHS one day as we could say you dont deserve to be treated. So try respecting people trying to say safe for others.
Nice sentiments, Richard. When I have had a bad day you are always a beacon of hope. Keep up the good work, sir! Regards, Lady Dunstanding.
Misleading headlines again. At first glance it seams to imply that 770 people had died of the virus. Why not put the true figure of 2 deaths. By putting 770 alongside, it could be construed that, that is the deaths on the Island.
