Alex Rennie has been appointed as the new Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
It’s after Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones announced her intention to appoint him last month following the resignation of Terry Norton.
Following a hearing in Winchester, PCC Donna Jones said she was delighted Alex will be joining the team.
She said:
“In July, the Home Office confirmed that police governance responsibilities will remain with me as the PCC until 1 April 2027 and not May 2026 as previously expected.
“The appointment of Alex as Deputy will ensure the OPCC can continue delivering for Hampshire & Isle of Wight residents as we prepare for the evolving landscape of devolution.
“He is in an excellent position to do that.
“Alex brings extensive experience in public sector leadership, managing large scale public sector budgets, working into government and managing policy particularly in local government.

Alex Rennie previously served as leader of Havant Borough Council, where he led transformation efforts and worked closely with the OPCC to secure safer streets funding. He’s also acted as a Senior Advisor to the Shadow Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury and as Chief of Staff to an MP.
In addition, Alex co-founded UK Friends of Ukraine which coordinates humanitarian aid to those in need in the war-torn country.
Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner, Alex Rennie, has said:

“Having worked in the public sector for the past decade, I am passionate about serving the people of Hampshire and Isle of Wight.

“I have seen first-hand how drugs gangs and anti-social behaviour can have a devastating impact on our communities and I am keen to continue to support the PCC’s work in helping prevent crimes from happening and supporting victims when they do.
“Having more police on our streets is key to that and the PCC’s Local Bobby scheme, alongside the opening of police station front counters, helps reassure the public we’re working hard to make sure that happens.
“I look forward to engaging with Hampshire and Isle of Wight’s dedicated police officers, staff, volunteers, and community leaders.”
Alex will start with the OPCC later this month.
He might be a great benefit to the opcc and the police force but will he be a great benefit too the public looking at his history he looks a typical yes man it’s all about the money honey

Another unelected fat cat, grubbing around in the trough at our expense as Donna strengthens her empire. The previous snout in the trough resigning was a chance for her to cut her costs and divert some funds into actual policing, but, no, she just has to empire-build and we have to pay for it. High time the entire empire was abolished and all the funds directed into real policing.

It seems arrogant of the Conservatives to assume they can simply appoint more of their own to run our local police services, when they are now such a discredited minority voice both locally and in the country at large?
