An individual suffering from the effects of a drug overdose led to a rescue operation being launched in a remote bay near Ventnor overnight.
It was just before 23:00 that HM Coastguard was alerted to a developing situation at Orchard Bay, between Ventnor and St Lawrence.
Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor were tasked to the scene.
Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat was launched into the darkness at 23:50, making best speed to the stretch of South Wight coast.
A short while later, Coastguard Rescue 375 helicopter from Lee-on-Solent was scrambled, circling overhead. The aerial asset was then re-tasked to another incident in Southampton.
It’s understood the casualty was stretchered to the top of the cliff for onward conveyance to St Mary’s Hospital.
Bembridge Lifeboat was stood down from the incident at 01:25.
