Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance has scrambled one of its helicopters to an incident involving HMC Vigilant at Cowes Yacht Haven this afternoon (Saturday).
It was around 12:35 that an emergency call was raised, thought to concern an individual onboard the HM Customs Cutter Vigilant, which is moored up alongside at Cowes Yacht Haven.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service answered the call for assistance and has 2 ambulances, a critical care paramedic and an operational commander on scene, alongside Coastguard Rescue Officers from Ventnor.
The air ambulance – which has travelled cross-county to respond to the emergency – has touched down at Cowes Community Club off Park Road, with the flying medics transferred to the scene of the incident just a short drive away.
The patient is currently being assessed and stabilised and is expected to be transferred to the air ambulance for onward conveyance.
HM Coastguard has also tasked Solent Rescue independent lifeboat to the incident.
UPDATE @ 14:40 – The patient has been transferred to the air ambulance and is being flown directly to the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth for specialist treatment.
Emergency services are now standing down from the incident.
