The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) has landed in a school playing field this afternoon (Saturday) in response to a medical emergency in the town of Ventnor.
Having left it’s Thruxton base at around 13:00, the yellow and green liveried helicopter landed in Upper Ventnor at The Island Free School before flying medics were transported to the scene of the incident on the upper portion of Zig Zag Road.
Joining them at the scene was 2x ambulances and a critical care paramedic from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has sent 2 fire appliances to the scene to assist in the extrication of the casualty.
Accessing the casualty is proving difficult so ladders are being utilised to improve manoeuvrability.
Once they have been removed from the property, the casualty is expected to be airlifted to St Mary’s Hospital.
Zig Zag Road is currently blocked between its junctions with Ocean View Road and St Alban’s Road.
UPDATE @ 15:00 – The casualty has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
Zig Zag Road has now completely reopened.
