A motorcycle rider in his 60s has suffered a serious injury following a collision on Military Road earlier today (Sunday).
Police were called at 12:43 to reports of a single vehicle collision on Military Road, Chale, involving a motorbike.
Several resources from Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were called to the scene as was the Hampshire & Isle of Air Ambulance (HIOWAA), which left its new Southampton Airport base at around 13:00.
The rider, a man in his 60s, has been taken to hospital with a serious injury.
Island Echo understands he was taken to St Mary’s Hospital as opposed to anywhere on the mainland.
A road closure was put in place to enable Police to deal with the incident, however it has since been lifted.

Hope the motorcyclist will be ok
Considering how many selfish people were parked on the grass verges on both sides of the road (many of them, rightly, getting parking tickets) I hope this wasn’t a factor in contributing to the collision?
If it was, shame on every single driver that parked on the verge!
Wishing the man a speedy recovery.
I was driving along the Military Road yesterday and the amount
of Motorcyclists speeding is shocking
Until they slow down it’s a disaster waiting to happen.
Speeding on the Military Road needs monitoring
BEFORE PEOPLE GET THEIR KNICKERS IN A TWIST
IF WEARING ANY. I AM NOT SAYING THIS INCIDENT WAS
DUE TO SPEEDING. I AM JUST STATING THAT SPEEDING IS RIFE
ON THE MILITARY ROAD!
Wishing the Motorcyclist a speedy recovery.
