A unwell patient in East Cowes has been airlifted to a mainland hospital by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance this afternoon (Saturday).
Children playing on the recreation ground off Victoria Grove were surprised to see the air ambulance as it circled the town before landing on the field at just before 15:00, attracting a number of locals to the scene to admire the bright yellow helicopter.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have transferred care of a patient to the HEMS team, who have flown the individual to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.
The patient is understood to be suffering from a cardiac complaint.
