The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has touched down in Lake this morning (Wednesday) in response to a medical emergency at a residential address.
It was just before 07:35 that an emergency 999 call was made, prompting a Category 1 response from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service to a property on Lake Green Road.
An ambulance crew, a critical care paramedic and an operational commander were immediately dispatched, with firefighters from Shanklin also mobilised on a medical response.
Flying medics are now also on scene, providing enhanced pre-hospital emergency care to a critically ill patient.
The air ambulance has landed on Lake Common, just metres away from the scene of the ongoing medical emergency. It touched down at 08:30.
It is the second time in just over 12 hours that the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been called out to the Island. At just gone 19:00 last night, the air ambulance responded to Northwood, landing in a field off Wyatts Lane, to assist the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service with another emergency at a property on Pallance Road.
UPDATE @ 09:05 – The patient is being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport by land ambulance – accompanied by the air ambulance crew.
The helicopter itself has been relocated to the helipad at St Mary’s.
