A motorcyclist has sustained potentially serious injuries as a result of a road traffic collision at Blackwater, to which the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has been scrambled this evening (Monday).
Emergency services are currently on scene at Blackwater Hollow – between Blackwater and Rookley – having been alerted to the incident at around 18:40.
It’s thought at least 1 other vehicle has been involved.
Flying medics from the Andover-based air ambulance have touched down in a field beside the scene to join colleagues from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service in tending to the injured rider.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is on scene also.
The road is currently blocked in both directions with motorists having to divert locally via Merstone.
UPDATE @ 19:40 – The motorcyclist has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by land, with the air ambulance relocating to the helipad.
UPDATE @ 20:10 – The extent of the rider’s injuries are unknown at this time, but it is understood they have now been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital.
Blackwater Hollow remains closed in both directions, but is expected to reopen after recovery of the vehicles.
UPDATE ON TUESDAY – Police have confirmed that a man in his 50s has sustained serious injuries following a collision between his BMW bike and a Mitsubishi car.
