UPDATED: The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) is attending a cyclist who has come off his bike and sustained head injuries in Ryde this evening (Tuesday).
Police and paramedics were called to Winton Street off Monkton Street at just before 18:00 after reports were received of a cyclist having come off their bicycle.
The air ambulance has landed in Simeon Street rec and Police have conveyed the on-board doctors and paramedics the short distance to the scene.
Winton Street is closed to motorists.
UPDATE @ 19:10 – The casualty, a man in his 50s, has been conveyed by land ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital, accompanied by 2 of the HIOWAA crew.
The bright yellow helicopter itself has taken off from Ryde with the pilot and a third crew member and is heading to the helipad at St Mary’s.
Winton Street has now reopened.
The extent of the cyclist’s injuries is currently unknown.
