Adam Hose hit 266 in 253 balls against Hampshire at the Utilita Bowl on Sunday (29th June) as Worcestershire ended day one on 456-3.
The 32-year-old batsman – who once played for Ventnor Cricket Club – hit 7 sixes and 31 fours in his record-breaking innings.
The Isle of Wight cricketer’s innings was made all the sweeter for the fact that he had played for Hampshire at Under-13 to Under-17 levels but had never been offered a professional contract by the local county side.
Hose was dismissed in the penultimate over of the day – caught by Currie off the bowling of Kelly. He had hit 50 in 74 balls, 100 in 126, 150 in 178, 200 in 208 and 250 in 240. The more runs he scored, the further and harder he hit the ball, with one of his 7 sixes hitting a spectator in the stands. His innings also required 2 ball changes as he twice smashed the ball out of the ground.
After the game, Adam said:
“My first double-hundred in first class cricket. So it’s cool, you know, it’s been a long time since I left this club as a teenager.
“It was a really nice day to play cricket. It was a good crowd in on a good surface, and with all my teammates up there supporting me, it was always going to be a special day.”
Unfortunately, Adam’s father was not present at the ground to watch his son’s record-breaking innings, as he had decided to let the game unfold before choosing whether or not to attend the match.
