UPDATED: Access both in and out of Yarmouth has been severed this afternoon (Saturday) due to a fault with the Yar Bridge, which has become stuck in the open position.
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area, with residents and visitors to the town pinned in due to the ongoing road closure at the Bouldnor end of the town, which has resulted in the Yar Bridge being the only available access before this afternoon’s mechanical failure.
Southern Vectis are advising that Route 7 buses are currently not serving Yarmouth.
UPDATE @ 14:55 – Island Roads have temporarily opened Thorley Road to reinstate access to Yarmouth. Motorists are being diverted via Tennyson Road, Thorley Road and Wilmingham Lane.
Route 7 buses are now serving the town. Motorists are advised to take care when passing through Thorley Road.
Police have advised that the emergency closure of the carriageway could be in place for several hours while engineers work to resolve the issue.
UPDATE @ 15:31 – Yar Bridge is now full operational once again. The road closures at Bouldnor end of Yarmouth will come back into action in 15 minutes time.
