UPDATED: Emergency services are this evening (Friday) in attendance at East Cowes Esplanade where a 14-year-old boy has broken his wrist and landed in an awkward location, prompting a full rescue operation involving Coastguard and the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
Fire crews from Newport and Ryde, a rescue unit from Newport and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team are working with paramedics to free the young teenager from within woodland near to a land slip area.
The muddy conditions are hampering rescue efforts.
UPDATE @ 17:30 – The young lad has been carried to safety on a stretcher and is being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance.
A second youngster has also been involved in the incident, but has escaped any injury.
The pair got into difficulty in a muddy section of woodland above the land slip.
HM Coastguard are reminding people to take care around the coast this Summer, especially in areas prone to landslips and muddy areas.
Emergency crews are now standing down from the incident.
