9-year-old Rex Jones made his debut for Sandown Bowls Club in their match against touring side Silverthorne & Chingford on Sunday (4th May).
The visiting side came out on top, winning 5 of the 7 rinks, although most rinks were won or lost by a narrow margin.
Rex Jones (aged 9) played his first-ever match for Sandown on Rink 5.
This is Rex’s first season as a member at Sandown and was understandably a little nervous before the match, but he soon showed that he was the temperament for the game and contributed well to the teams performance.
Rex said:
“I really enjoyed the match and am looking forward to the next one”.
The visiting team were complimentary of how Rex bowled; they commented that it was great to see younger players on the green.
The touring side had several players who had started young and progressed through the ranks and were now playing representative games at county level.
Anyone wanting to see if bowls is for them can come to the Sandown Bowls Club Open Day on 11th May. For further details: https://www.sandownbowlingclub.co.uk/
