A man was taken to hospital by Police during the early hours of this morning (Wednesday) after a 9-hour standoff on the edge of Culver Cliff.
Police responded to the East Wight beauty spot at 18:20 over concerns for the welfare of a man.
The situation prompted a response from HM Coastguard, with Bembridge and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams mobilised and Bembridge RNLI’s inshore lifeboat launched.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service also responded.
The individual is understood to have become violent towards responders. This led to a negotiator from the mainland being drafted in to calm the situation.
As the standoff continued, the Needles Coastguard Rescue Team was tasked to assist flank stations at around 02:45.
Eventually, after around 9 hours, the individual engaged with Police and he was taken for the appropriate medical attention at just gone 04:00.
