The number of downloads of the new NHS coronavirus contact tracing app has sky rocketed to 50,000.
As of 15:00 today, more than 50,000 downloads to Apple and Android devices have been recorded as entering an Isle of Wight postcode, according to Bob Seely MP.
Health Minister Nadine Dorries has confirmed the positive news, which really shows that the Island is getting behind the exclusive trial. She has thanked locals and said that feedback will help NHSX refine the app.
It is estimated there is between 85,000 and 100,000 smartphone owners on the Island.
Bob has this evening said:
“We all need to download the app and play our part in fighting coronavirus. It’s a good start but we need to continue this momentum”.
A promotional campaign went live across the Isle of Wight yesterday – including here on Island Echo – which is being credited for a big increase in the number of downloads. Letters also started to land on doorsteps of every local household.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Island residents are being encouraged to support the nation by being part of the next phase of the Government’s Test & Trace Programme. The app is currently only available on the Isle of Wight, but will be rolled out nationwide in the next 2-3 weeks.

……………
You will note that Bob, doesn’t mention the fact that you can enter any isle of wight post code into a phone located in any
part of the country and download the app.
slightly misleading.
once the number of downloads entering isle of wight postcodes surpasses the population of the isle of wight – you won’t hear anymore reports of the numbers downloading.
The way they are reporting this is to make everyone think that it is being downloaded by the required amount on the island.
You know what’s coming for the U.K.? We read about it in the Financial Times. Because of course this will be a shining success, and must be rolled out through the land. Honestly you couldn’t make this up , oh but course silly me, they have!
yes – definitely ..only a matter of time!
Anon it’s like sitting on a train ,heading for a crash, knowing it’s going to happen, and everyone else just carrying on as normal. It’s buzzard! I’ve wondered for many years how hitler got an entire nation behind him, never thought in my life I would see the same propaganda that he used, being used now, first hand. Of course for you people out there now who will say, Boris isn’t hitler,of course I’m not saying that, it’s the brain washing propaganda that’s used.
yes – hitler used deliberately vague policies to appeal to as many as possible. Used fear of communism to get support from industrialists. They used simple slogans to introduce their ideas to the ordinary people.
propaganda – “where the isle of wight leads, Britain follows” – gives the islanders a sense of being the vanguard etc etc.
Folk over in Norn Ireland will not do the download, PSNI says its too risky!
Mr Justice – I am sure you will find this comes as no surprise….
NHSX, the NHS England innovation unit, is leading the project, and development of the app is reportedly being carried out by Pivotal, a subsidiary of American software giant VMware.
A team at Oxford University has been developing the algorithm since mid-January, inspired by the Chinese tracking app that designates people a red or green riskiness code determining whether they should self-isolate.
from the new statesman dated 5th May 2020
and
Wariness around the app has been fuelled by a report from the Guardian revealing that a draft government memo explaining how the NHS contact tracing app could work noted that ministers might be given the ability to order “de-anonymisation” at some point to identify people from their smartphones. It said the app could use device IDs, which are unique to all smartphones, to reveal users’ identities, if deemed “proportionate at some stage”. It didn’t detail under what circumstances such a measure would be ‘proportionate’

Part 3, section 61A of the Investigatory Powers Act enables people with symptoms or a diagnosis of Coronavirus to be tracked without notice, and it is unclear if the UK government is following the practices developed during the Ebola crisis
excerpt..
At the same time, the Coronavirus Bill gives immigration officers and police the power to detain people if they have “reasonable grounds to suspect … a person is infectious”. The combination of this new bill with existing far-reaching data-gathering powers creates the risk that location and contact tracking technology could be used as a means of social control.

Thank you anon, another part of the jig saw fits into the picture, right in view of the public, and they say and do nothing!! Iconic that 75 years old today ,one tyrant and his regime was ended, yet today another starts. History does repeat given enough time.
No problem Mr Justice
as you can see, a little bit of research through publicly available documents throws up the points rarely seen on the main stream media channels that are frequented by the majority.
I am of the view that history may not repeat exactly, but it sure does rhyme and humans rarely learn from a previous crisis
or historical period.
When someone wakes up in a cell, having been detained for apparently being considered infectious, because their app pinged them as such, then perhaps the coffee will be smelt clearly.
when covid is over
the government will keep the app, build it out further and resist calls to dismantle the apparatus. They will say we need it in case of another pandemic and it is for pubic health, safety and security
Of course anon, the government always knows best for its people doesnt it? And the sheep people will feel safe that this app is in place to protect them! Safety for less freedom, really? So much change coming and so many unable, and unwilling to see it. But like you have just said, when things happen to these people, then they will wake up,but only to see the last train has already left the station.
Mr Justice – People just don’t see it.
example – a while ago there was a campaign for national ID cards that were jumped all over and dropped.
Lets think about that…
66 million people in the uk.
50 million driving licences registered (full and provisional) with the dvla in the UK as of December 2019.
Because the ID card was rejected, the driving licence has had all the agencies listed below attached to it by computer, so when you renew your licence, you supply all the required details – or you do not get to renew it online and have no licence. You are then considered as subsequently validated as “who you say you are”
Your driving licence, is linked to your passport, the DWP, Hmrc, your bank (payment by card), your photo, your national insurance number, date of birth, address and the police national computer (one question asks if you are disqualified from driving – this is checked)
The driving licence is now the de-facto ID card – won’t ever be publicly admitted though.
The number of children in the Uk is about 20% of the population or about 13.2 million.
This gets us to 63.2 million people accounted for – leaving around 3 million not holding a licence and not being a child.
The ID card was aimed at those 3 million people to bring them into line and accountability.
(Why do you think the personal issue Giro at the dole offices was discontinued and all must have a post office account set up for them, even if they have bad credit history- the ability to track and trace those who are homeless and are trying to be invisible. They can withdraw cash, however, it is paid into an account, which they can be tracked by digital transaction records, to a location at least once a week – not enough for government though)
I hear they is talk of dumping the NHS app and going with the google/apple one now! Money to burn.
Firstly you don’t seriously believe everything Bob Seely says do you on another note that’s only 35% still way under the 60% that they were hoping for
resident – 35% is the current figure – it isn’t a race with an ending – the number of downloads could easily equal 60% of the islands population by next week at the latest.
the point is that Bob is probably telling the truth, just missing out the part which indicates that you can enter any isle of wight post code into a phone located in any part of the country and download the app. The 50,000 figure cannot be relied upon with any real surety as to be purely island resident downloads
Tell me why you would believe anything that comes from these type of people.?You have obviously forgot, cash for questions, or claims scandal, shall I carry on? So why would we put our faith in these twits?
mr justice – ..he will have asked how many downloaded – they say 50,000 – but cannot confirm if they are all island based handsets that have been used to download ..he reports the factual number, minus the other bit – , however, if the downloads were minimal, Bob would have said “a good response so far, however, early days” – without any numbers.
we know that they aren’t going to scupper their own effort – they won’t say anything negative about it.
50,000 downloaded that NHS app out of a population of 141,538? I don’t believe it!
I bet they have some fella in Whitehall doing fake downloads with Isle of Wight postcodes in order to keep their NHSX project going!
85,000 to 100,000 Smart phone users in Isle of Wight? Never. I have a vintage Nokia!
Yer man Ferguson who resigned over breaking the lockdown would not be using a track and trace app during his bonking visits!
Could someone on the Isle of Wight email Private Eye asap and let them know how “successful” the NHS app trial is going.
They soon will have more downloads than residents. Perhaps someone in Ofcom could find out the total number of Smart phone users never 100,000!
Looks like the NHS app trial is being rigged big time folks. That contract must be worth its weight in manure!
My God, you’re all still at it. Good on the 50,000!
Your stupid scaremongering hasn’t succeeded, so you now don’t believe the numbers!!
The good of the island has succeeded, you haven’t, give it a rest, you’re losers!
mark- I am perfectly happy to believe the actual download number, however, as the app can be downloaded by anyone from anywhere in the country, the number cannot be attributed to solely island residents downloading it, with any degree of confidence, without supporting, independently verified evidence.
Who’s Bob Seely?
just your average fat nonce
Oh my God. Do you people really believe what your writing? Hugh jarse = tiny brain.
Well said, lots of idiots on here.
Anon & mr justice you are both spot on! Let’s watch as it happens and then say we told you so! Can’t wait to say it! Followers = fools
