5 people were arrested at the Co-Op in Rookley on Tuesday afternoon as Police responded to a report of shoplifting. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were alerted to the incident at the convenience store on Main Road at around 16:00, with numerous officers rushing to the scene over an hour-long period. It has now been confirmed that 3 women, a man and a teenage boy were all arrested on suspicion of several different offences. 20-year-old Maddy Allan-Willshire, of Godric Road in Newport, has since been charged with theft and has been bailed to appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 26th March. A 21-year-old woman from Newport was arrested on suspicion of theft as well, but has now been released from custody and will face no further action. Another 21-year-old woman, from Ryde, was arrested on suspicion of failing to comply with a community protection notice and has been released under investigation while enquiries continue. A 24-year-old man from Dorking in Surrey was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and has also been released under investigation while enquiries continue. A 16-year-old from Rookley was arrested on suspicion of theft and has been released on bail until 5th June.
