A 44-year-old woman has been rescued from the banks of the River Medina this evening (Saturday) following a multi-agency operation to free her from a sticky mud bank.
Emergency services were called just before 18:15 to the scene outside Quay Arts at Newport Quay, prompting Newport and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams, paramedics, Police and the Incident Support Unit from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service to attend.
In less than 30 minutes, the lady was freed from the sticky situation and was taken into the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
It is currently unclear how the woman came to enter the river, however, witnesses at the scene suggest she may have been intoxicated.
