UPDATED: A 43-year-old man from Shanklin has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following last night’s stabbing in Shanklin.
As first reported by Island Echo, a man was stabbed on the corner of Spring Gardens and St Paul’s Avenue in broad daylight at just before 20:00 yesterday (Saturday). The incident prompted the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance to be called to the scene.
Police have today confirmed that the victim received a puncture wound to his chest. He is in a serious, but not life-threatening condition in Southampton General Hospital after being airlifted from Green Lane Recreation Ground.
The 43-year-old suspect remains in Police custody as detectives continue to investigate the incident.
Police officers visited an address on nearby North Road last night, as well as a property on Spring Gardens.
UPDATE @ 14:53 – Island Echo understands a second, younger man handed himself into Police this morning, although it is unclear if he has been arrested or charged for any offences.
UPDATE MONDAY – The 43-year-old man has been released from custody, with no further action to be taken against him.
Meanwhile a 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, but he too has been released from Police custody, although he remains under investigation.
