A weather warning has been issued for the Isle of Wight as forecasters predict that a large area of heavy rain will move in tomorrow (Thursday).
IW Met Service says that rainfall totals are likely to be 20-30mm widely, but perhaps as much as 40mm locally.
There is the additional chance of some very strong and gusty winds.
The yellow warning is in force from 11:00 through to 23:00 on 8th January.
Islanders should be aware of soil, silt and shingle being washed across roads and walkways, especially in more rural areas.
Breaching of waterways, especially smaller streams and water courses, is possible and there will be plenty of surface water and spray on roads leading to hazardous driving conditions.
Polluted stormwater could affect some of the Island’s beaches.
I hope this is wrong because it will mean that Morton Common will flood and, with Yaverland Road closed all week for water works, Sandown will be cut off northbound again.
