A drink driver from Bembridge who was given to Police after a member of the public heard him say he had been ‘out on the razz’ has been banned from the roads for 4 years.
Douglas Williams, 51, of Lane End Road, pleaded guilty to drink driving when he appeared before Magistrates for sentencing earlier this week (25th August).
On the morning of 13th July, whilst travelling back to the Island from Portsmouth, a member of the public alerted Police to Williams after they overheard him say that he’d been ‘out on the razz’ the night before.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary arrived at the scene and followed Williams until Binstead Hill, where they pulled him over. It was here that Williams failed a roadside breath test.
At Newport Police Station, a further breath test returned a reading of 135 microgrammes.
The former hotel manager and landscaper, who is now a full-time carer for his 2 elderly parents, has 3 previous drink drive convictions, the most recent in 2013.
Defending Williams, Simon Collingham said that his client had showed deep remorse for his actions and that he was ashamed of his behaviour adding that Williams had just split up with his girlfriend the day before the incident so he decided to drink.
The 51-year-old sat in the dock sobbing continuously until Magistrates came back in and told him of the their decision.
Douglas Williams was handed a 12 week prison sentence suspended for 12 months and banned from driving for 48-months. He was ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work and attend 20 rehabilitation activity days.
He was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £154 surcharge fee.
You cant help feel sorry for people like this, it always amazes me that drink drugs and fags are available all the time and it causes the highest cancer and death rates,not to mention the goverment tax on both, we kill our own through addiction and the government forces it upon us, it easy to say otherwise if your not addicted, im sure someone will reply he wasnt force fed the booze-but by then its just too late….millions of families are destroyed every day by drink fags and drugs(perscription ones aswell)
I don’t feel remotely sorry for these losers, just stupid hand wringers like you do. As you pointed out yourself, no-one is forced to smoke, drink or take drugs it was their choice to do so, and only a complete idiot drives after drinking too much. Lock them up and throw away the key I say.
Drink driving is such a stupid thing to do, everytine I’ve tried, I ended up spilling my pint on the steering wheel.

Word salad.
Salad should have a little more of the sauce on top and a bit more salt to make a paste that will make the sauce taste good but not as good and taste like it tastes good to me and I like it better with a bit more water in the middle and a bit of the vinegar and a bit less of the vinegar in the middle to get it to taste like it is the same consistency but it also doesn’t really make a paste for me and it is very salty for the texture so I’m going for a different taste but it’s a lot more of it I like the texture I think it’s not that much better with a lot more than it was before and it’s a little bit of it is a lot of it is a little bit of the sauce is a lot more of the stuff is good to have

As this scum hasn’t learned from the 3 previous drink driving prosecutions it should be banned from the roads for life and told that if caught driving whilst banned it would go straight to prison
Being a manager and a hard worker must very stressful obviously needed need to let his hair down. Not worth the risk driving over the limit as island is very small community people will always get caught and reported out in the end . 4 years is long time. Drunk driver island echo reports of accidents they only get 2 years seems bit unfair to me

Fourth DUI conviction
A 51 year old serial drink driver caught when nearly 4 times over the legal limit. Fortunately a serious accident didn’t occur as a result… What did he think would be the outcome? Whatever the circumstances, he got what he deserved. Suck it up!
