Following a prolonged period of no or very few cases of coronavirus, a rising number of cases are now being identified on the Isle of Wight.
Although 7 individuals have been confirmed as having COVID-19 since the start of September, that number is relatively low given the local population of 140,000.
The latest case was confirmed on Saturday (5th September), with 2 cases confirmed on 3rd, 3 cases on 2nd and another on 1st.
During the month of July, there were just 4 cases identified on the Island with a further 10 cases listed in the month of August. That means in the past 10 weeks a total of 21 cases have been recorded locally – averaging around 2 a week.
The 7-day rolling average is currently sitting at 1.
440 cases of COVID-19 have now been recorded on the Isle of Wight since the start of the pandemic, with 88 deaths (20%).

Yup, second wave is on it’s way. We all need to wash our hands, ware a face mask when appropriate and reduce the number of people we come in contact with. That way the shops and jobs can be safe.
If too many people ignore the advice it’ll all be locked down again, or worse, it’ll be like the US where 1000+ people are dying, EVERY DAY!

No, it won’t stop until people obey the rules to keep the virus at bay. Figures are going up because selfish people do as they like whether they are endangering others or not. I have seen so many disobeying the rules and then when figures go up (including deaths) they blame everyone but themselves. Some men are the daftest of the lot. The American CDC (centre for disease control) have reduced the Mortality rate FROM Covid to approx 10,000 people, the rest have had One or more severe co-morbidities including the FLU.
To claim 1,000 people are dying every day in the USA from Covid is just WRONG, a LIE.

then lets keep it that way shall we. One thing worries me – our pavements in town are generally narrow. In these cases people are not covering their faces and are passing each other far closer than even 1 meter let along 2.. The bit about being safer outside is fine BUT there is the added and often forgotten proviso “if social distancing allows” – so folks we need masks out and about where we cannot keep apart. Got it?.
But that makes 437 cases of the virus and 88 Deaths in total so far , not so miniscule then
To be fair, 0.3% isn’t exactly enormous.And how many of the 88 deaths would have been part of the typical death rate of 1600 per year that occurs anyway?
For balance, can we have some percentages for those who have lost their jobs, suffered financial hardship or simply were unable to have a serious medical condition treated?
Suicide rate ! Its a hard subject for some to deal with though should be a big part of this. What is the true number of people ending their lifes this year, because of the hardship and accelerating anxiety / depression.
My condolences to the families that have losted loved ones through this way.
Have actually seen someone seriously ill with this terrible disease? My daughter, a teacher. caught it from a GP, and is still a long Covid survivor.
This new spike is very very serious and could cause far more economic damage to the Island and others with untreated medical problems. Lost jobs? Yes,more and more people moving to the Isle of Wight equals smaller houses,because land is expensive,and worst still,people with a family of 4kuds equals 4more houses,when they leave home,hence the reason that everyone is getting packed in.
I would certainly buy a place there if I had the money. I live in West Sussex but my property is small and could only afford like for like or a nice Park Home with extortionate ground rent, so we visit twice as year for a Camping break or nice Lodge at Woodside. I hope they NEVER build a bridge or Tunnel. If they did, it’ll be up to the highest bidder, say Wightlink but if they didn’t get it, they’d probably go bust, but at £150 a ticket, it’s a rip-off unless you MUST go!

WOW… I know there are some who think that Covid19 is a lie, that it is a ploy to control us, that Flu is more dangerous, that only fools take precautions etc. but to those of us with health issues or who have friends or relatives who have caught the thing it is NOT an act of fiction. The fact that anyone claiming that they think that Covid19 is real are now liable to a Troll attack is not only disgusting behaviour, but seems to me that those very nay Sayers are more worried about it than they dare admit. I am sure some people love the David Icke explanation, and may consider it as gospel, or that it is a man made infection that ‘escaped’ but this strange idea that Covid19 is a Government plot to ‘control’ us possibly the strangest. I see nothing at all in the actions taken that even hint at controlling anyone, I am sure the sickos in finance will have made a killing on the stock market, but that does nothing for HMG, neither do millions of unemployed, or overworked Hospital staff, funerals without mourners, panic buying or wearing a face mask! Get it right please, Covid19 is real, it does kill, and in a terrible painful and slow way, just as smoking, Cancer, Winter Flu et al. I am in no doubt that Covid19 will either kill me or have huge long term effects to me and my wife. Second wave has arrived
As predicted in one of my other comments, as soon as the holiday makers start returning home, we have to cope with a 2nd spike. Thank you to the tourist board, Seely, The Council and the pubs and eateries flouting the rules.
